Every quarter, the team member, whether an employee, service provider or volunteer who has enhanced the residents’ lives in the most outstanding way will be recognised by certificate and gift.

Nurse Manager, Patricia Taylor RN, BA  has been involved in care of the aged for 30 plus years. Patricia joined the team in 2005 and her wide network amongst Auckland’s health professionals is the primary reason that occupancy rates have soared and Shalom Court become a favoured eastern suburbs boutique home. Patricia admirably steers Shalom Court through its regulatory audits, and her high personal standards and expectations of the team generate excellence in all aspects of the operation.

Registered Nurse, Donna Dove joined the team in November 2009 and strengthens the ratio of registered nurse hours to resident.  With a wide experience in a number of nursing positions Donna is a welcome addition to the Shalom Court staff.  The most recent has been working with the elderly in Mercy Parklands and the Edmund Hilary retirement village.

With a performance-based remuneration policy, Shalom Court management encourages its caregiving team to undertake and complete the 12-month National Certificate in Aged Care and pays all course fees. Registration fees of other courses that are deemed to bring direct benefit to the quality of care provided are also met by Shalom Court eg Gerontology conferences, Care Advisory, Health & Safety (EMA/ACC) and Infection control. The current ratio of caregivers to residents is 12.66 hours per resident per week, above the benchmark national average.

Activities Co-ordinator, Mary Joass, enrolled nurse, drives the events programme, assisted by the nurses, caregivers and a team of voluntary committee members. Mary is an active member of the Folk & Decorative Artists’ Society of NZ. There is a strong emphasis on education and activities relating to the Jewish calendar. Other notable events during the year include St Patricks Day, the Queens Birthday “Honours”, Bastille Day, Residents’ Family night, the Melbourne Cup BBQ and International Volunteers Day.

Our Administrator Jenny Schulman , looks after all enquiries in the first instance. Jenny's office hours are Tues-Thurs, 09.00am to 2.00pm.  Enquiries outside these hours can be directed to one of our nurse managers. For first-time visitors, Jenny will happily give you a tour of the facility and introduce you to the team.

Grounds Manager, Rhoda Montgomery, attends to all maintenance needs that arise around the facility. This includes gardening, refurbishments and repair projects. Rhoda liaises with service providers where specialist skill is required. Rhoda’s immense capacity and generosity of spirit have her involved in almost every on-site event!

Our 2 primary cooks are an integral part of the team, each with over 3 years experience at Shalom Court. June and Sina are known to all the residents, and cater to individual culinary tastes and restrictions, while familiar with and adhering to Jewish dietary laws. All meals offer at least two choices and either June or Sina visits each resident to ascertain a preference.

The resident advocate is a volunteer committee member who visits residents weekly and listens to concerns, issues and feedback re their week at Shalom Court. The advocate joins the residents for lunch and observes the socialisation of the “family”. When a matter requires a wider forum, the advocate can represent the resident’s voice at the monthly resident and/or committee meetings.

An on-site weekly hairdressing service is popular with residents at an additional cost to users.

A beautician visits fortnightly to tend to manicures and facials for both male and female residents. Her services are voluntary; residents pay a token donation to cover the costs of products used.

A resident doctor visits residents who choose her services. Visits are monthly, 3-monthly or when a medical condition requires. Visits are free to a specified amount; residents pay any excess.

A podiatrist visits every 6 weeks, a free service for clinically assessed residents.

Voluntary drivers are available to transport and accompany residents on scheduled outings.
